In every story, there is the possibility of seeing the universal in the personal, of finding something of our stories in someone else’s. Whether it’s in the ring of the boxing world or in life, I am much more inspired getting a glimpse into how people respond to facing obstacles than hearing stories of quick and easy success. Live long enough and through enough and you realize there is no guarantee of outcomes, no matter how hard we work. So what then? Terrance “Tank” Dumas’s story is a great example of how to live in the tension of both – to keep going after our dreams even when things don’t unfold as we’d like and to identify “success” apart from any external outcomes.
